Start From a Template
Get a working agent in minutes. Pick your industry and NexChat sets up how your agent talks, its welcome message and its starter questions. You then add your own information.
Three ways to start
When you create a new agent, Step 2 asks how you want to start. Each way works on its own, so nothing you choose in one overwrites another.
| Option | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Use a template | Choose your industry. We set up the agent's voice, welcome message, starter questions and colour. | The fastest start, when you will add your own documents or text. |
| Use my website | Share your website address. We read your site, pick up your logo and colours, and train the agent on your pages. | Businesses whose website already has the answers. |
| Set up manually | Start blank and add files, text or Q&A yourself. Nothing is pre-filled. | Documents, PDFs and fully custom content. |
How to use a template
- On Step 2, choose Use a template.
- Use the category pills (All, Retail, Property, Hospitality, Technology, Health, Professional, Finance, Education, General) to narrow the list, or scroll through all ten.
- Select a template and click Use [template name].
- On Step 3 add your knowledge. A box called Good things to add lists what works well for your industry.
- Review Steps 4 and 5. The welcome message, starter questions, colour and instructions are already filled in, and you can change any of them.
- Test your agent in the Playground, then deploy it.
What a template sets
- How your agent talks: full instructions written for your industry, with your company name filled in.
- Welcome message and three starter questions for your visitors.
- Theme colour and the agent type (for example Customer Support or Sales).
What a template does not set
- Facts about your business. A template never contains prices, policies or opening hours. You add those as knowledge, so the agent cannot make things up.
- Lead capture, human handoff and business contact details. These stay in Settings, so a template never conflicts with them.
- Your logo. Add it in the appearance step.
The ten templates
| Template | Built for | Built-in care |
|---|---|---|
| E-Commerce Support | Online stores: orders, shipping, returns, products | Never invents policies, prices, stock levels or delivery dates. It cannot see individual orders. |
| Real Estate | Agencies helping buyers, sellers and renters | No valuations, price predictions or guarantees. |
| Restaurant & Hospitality | Menus, opening hours, bookings information | Never guarantees a dish is free of an allergen. |
| SaaS Customer Success | Software products | Only gives setup steps that are in your knowledge. |
| Healthcare FAQ | Clinics and practices | No medical advice. Points people to local emergency services in an emergency. |
| Legal Services | Law firms and legal practices | No legal advice or predictions about outcomes. |
| Financial Services | Financial products and services | No personal, tax or investment advice. Never asks for passwords, PINs or card numbers. |
| Education & Learning | Schools, colleges and course providers | Does not promise admission, results or job outcomes. |
| Fitness & Wellness | Gyms, studios and classes | No medical, injury or diet advice. |
| General Business | Any business | Friendly, accurate and on topic. |
All templates share the same core rules: answer only from your knowledge, say so when something is not covered, stay on topic, and politely decline unrelated requests such as poems or recipes.
Add your knowledge
A template gives your agent its manner, not its facts. Until you add knowledge, it will tell visitors it does not have that information. That is the safe behaviour, but it will not be helpful yet.
On Step 3 you can add Files, Text, a Website or Q&A. Train & continue stays disabled until you have added at least one source that did not fail. See Sources for the details.
Tip: Start with the questions customers ask most: opening hours, prices, returns or bookings, and how to contact you. Even a short Text source goes a long way.
Using your website instead
If you choose Use my website, enter your address, for example yourbusiness.com, and pick an Agent Type. Enter just the website name. A business name, a sentence, an email address, localhost or an IP address is not accepted, and you will see a plain explanation if the address needs fixing.
